Sheppard Open House & Air Show

In celebration of the 75 years that Sheppard has been training Airmen, we are holding the 2016 Open House & Air Show event Sept. 17-18, 2016. This weekend is dedicated to sharing the history of Sheppard, showing our pride in its 75 years of excellence and engaging with the community about Sheppard’s missions and its impact on the Air Force and worldwide.

Sheppard Air Force Base is the most diverse training base in the Air Force. Its two primary missions include the Air Force’s largest technical training operation along with the world’s only internationally manned and managed pilot training program.

Through the 82nd Training Wing, Sheppard delivers more than 60,000 officers and enlisted technical training graduates annually in more than 900 courses. The wing provides in all aircraft maintenance, logistics and conventional and nuclear munitions training, supporting every airframe in the Air Force inventory. In addition to its technical training of Air Force service members, the 82nd provides training to many partner nations – the 82nd is the lead agent for technical training in support of the Royal Saudi Air Force, and is home to more than 200 RSAF Airmen in training. The wing also delivers joint-service civil engineering training required to operate both permanent and expeditionary DOD installations around the world. With 61 training detachments on three continents, including one at Tinker Air Force Base, Oklahoma, the 82nd is a massive, global training operation.

The 80th Flying Training Wing is home to the Euro-NATO Joint Jet Pilot Training Program, which is considered the premier fighter pilot training program in the world. A true international partnership, the program’s 13 partner nations each provide funding and manpower to operate the program. For several partner nations, including Germany, ENJJPT is the sole training pipeline for fighter pilots. Moreover, the international nature of daily operations within the wing pays huge dividends in building the international partnerships and relationships that are critical to effective global military operations in the 21st century.

Essentially, no other Air Force base has a greater opportunity or responsibility to shape the current and future combat capability of the U.S. Air Force, its sister services and our international partners, than does Sheppard AFB.
