The commander of the 82nd Training Wing has implemented a Weather Condition Index just in time for the latest round of wintry weather.

According to a memorandum sent out to all commanders, Brig. Gen. Richard Devereaux's index is "intended to provide guidance to personnel regarding reporting, delay and release instructions when inclement weather strikes."

The general's index has three categories to advise personnel on appropriate action: Weather Condition Green, Weather Condition Yellow and Weather Condition Red.

Under Weather Condition Green, personnel should expect normal reporting and normal operations. They are advised to check local media outlets and the Internet for safe travel advisories.

Weather Condition Yellow means personnel should have a heightened state of awareness, but, technical training will continue as scheduled. Weather warning and watches are either in place or imminent. The base commander also has authorized delayed reporting and/or early release for non mission-essential personnel who reside off base. Unit commanders should manage delayed reporting and or early release up to two hours for non mission-essential personnel who reside off base, based upon weather conditions and training mission demands. Commanders also shall ensure assigned personnel are advised in advance whether they are considered mission essential.

Weather Condition Red indicates the most extreme of the three indices. Under this condition, all training is suspended due to the weather conditions. Personnel should remain at home or be released with the exception of those who are necessary to provide basic support, security and services as determined by commanders. This is similar to weekend or non-duty day operations. Personnel will be recalled on an as-needed basis.
