9/21/2011 - SHEPPARD AIR FORCE BASE, Texas -- The air acts are scheduled, the static displays have been assigned spots on the ramp and the concessionaire stands have gathered their volunteers - get ready for a weekend of flying and fun for you and your family!

The Canadian Forces Snowbirds will take to the skies at the 2011 Sheppard Air Force Base Open House and Air Show on Oct. 1 to Oct. 2. The show will feature an amazing lineup of military and civilian performers as well as the U.S. Air Force Academy Wings of Blue jump team.

The theme for this year's air show is "Salute to Warriors," chosen to honor military members of the past, present and future from all services.

There will be numerous on-ground static displays with pilots present to talk about their aircraft and allow attendees to touch, tour and take photos with the Warbirds, military jets and helicopters.

New to the air show are civilian aerobatic performers Tim Webber and Rob Holland, who are sure to be instant crowd pleasers. Also appearing at this year's show is Smoke-N-Thunder, an Air Force Reserve Jet Car that approaches speeds of 400 mph with 10,000 horsepower and more than 6,000 pounds of thrust with afterburner.

To keep the whole family entertained, the Kids Zone will offer families an opportunity to climb rock walls, take flight on the kiddie airport, flip on the bungee harnesses and bounce in aviation-themed inflatables.

"I'm really excited that the Air Show is here. It's been a privilege working with the Air Show committee over the past year to bring a safe and enjoyable experience to the base and surrounding communities. From the air performers to the static displays, from the concessionaire to the Kids Zone, we have something for everybody. Can't wait to see everyone out there next Saturday and Sunday!" said Lt. Col. Brad McDonald, 82nd Mission Support Group deputy commander and this year's air show lead.

Sheppard's mission will be showcased with displays manned by subject matter experts eager to talk to the training mission here on base.

Admission and Kids Zone areas are free. Gates will be open from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. with performances scheduled from approximately 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Sunday's line-up of performers is a repeat from Saturday.
