5/9/2012 - SHEPPARD AIR FORCE BASE, Texas -- The 80th Flying Training Wing wrapped up its 2012 Air Education and Training Command Consolidated Unit Inspection May 4th, with the wing earning an overall "Excellent" rating. This CUI was the first of its kind inspection for AETC, combining the IG Compliance Inspection, the Logistics Capability Assessment Program, the Airfield Operations Compliance Inspection and the Aircrew Standardization and Evaluation Visit in one inspection.

The 80th Operations Group and all six squadrons also received an overall score of an "excellent." In addition Wing Flight Safety, the Contract Officer Representative Logistics Compliance Assessment Program and 459th Flying Training Squadron Aircrew Performance all received an "outstanding" rating.

During the inspection outbrief, the AETC IG team said they were very impressed with the exceptional performance by the wing and the positive attitudes they witnessed.

The wing had 33 professional performers, and five individuals received coins from the Inspector General team lead, Col. Kenneth D. Frollini.

During the outbrief, Col. Dieter Bareihs, 80th Flying Wing Commander, thanked the inspection team and gave credit to leadership and all individuals that made the inspection a success.

"To the inspectors, thank you for giving us an honest look, identifying room for improvement and verifying that we are doing the right things," Bareihs said. "From the outstanding leadership from our Squadron Commanders, Wing Staff Agency Chiefs and Operations Group Division Chiefs all the way down to the individuals in the trenches, each of you played a key part in the 80th's success. Congratulations and thank you for your hard work."

This team effort resulted in a successful win for the 80th Flying Training Wing.

"This is good news for the ENJJPT program that we will pass along to the Steering Committee and Higher Headquarters."

Lt. Col. Rodney Liberato, 80th Flying Training Wing Inspector General and CUI Project Officer, said the results of the inspection were a validation of what he already knew.

"The results of the inspection are very rewarding and it's satisfying to have other wings calling us and looking at us as the example," said Liberato.

The inspection for the 80th is complete but Bareihs said we need to sustain our processes and programs over the long haul.

The 80th Flying Training Wing will participate in certain portions of the 82nd Training Wing's inspection this week and is grateful for the support provided by the 82nd Mission Support Group and the 82nd Medical Group not only during the CUI, but day in and day out.
