9/26/2012 - SHEPPARD AIR FORCE BASE, Texas -- The 82nd Training Wing "Commander's Wingman of Choice" award program is the commander's way of acknowledging Airmen for a job well done and to recognize Airmen who exemplify the spirit of the program.

Award recipients, who can be either military or government civilian employees, are nominated by their respective groups and also includes the wing staff agencies. Criteria for consideration include outstanding duty performance, community involvement and exemplary leadership.

The 82nd TRW "Commander's Wingman of Choice" award winner for the week of Sept. 24-28 is:

Name and rank: SrA Michael Tryon

Go by name: Michael

Squadron: 82 MDOS

Duty title: Mental Health Technician

Hometown: Cleveland, Ohio

Years of service and time on Sheppard: 4 years/4 years

Family: Kate (wife), Cameron (son, 6 yrs old)

Education: Working towards Alcohol and Drug Counselor Certification

What inspires you: Working to leave a positive impact on people I interact with on a daily basis.

Future goals:
Receiving Alcohol and Drug Counselor certification; finishing bachelor's degree in Biology; to make Tech. Sgt. first time testing

Greatest accomplishment: Raising a family.

Hobbies, off-duty interests: Video games and spending time with family

Reason for submission:  SrA Tryon consistently steps up to support his flight and squadron when needed. During an absence in flight leadership, he stepped in as the flight chief and ensured the flight met the mission. He coordinates and participates in community activities such as Red Ribbon Week to help raise drug awareness.

Commander's comments: "SrA Tryon is one of our go to Airmen. He was recently selected for promotion to SSgt. His selfless attitude and leadership skills are an asset to the MDG. I'm proud to serve with him."   - Lt. Col. Zina Crump

Tryon was recognized during the weekly 82nd Training Wing staff meeting on Sept. 26, receiving a wing coin.
