10/17/2012 - SHEPPARD AIR FORCE BASE, Texas  -- The 51st Annual Combined Federal Campaign (CFC) closed out on Oct. 10, with the base raising $254,090 for local, national and international charitable organizations.

Sheppard began this year's campaign on Sep. 10.

The base had set a goal this year to raise $205,000. Sheppard exceeded it by over 25 percent, topping last year's total of $247,000.

Base personnel donated money directly from their paychecks or by cash contribution, but also had the opportunity to participate in a golf tournament, bowling tournament, and other events to raise money for CFC. One flag football game in particular drew a crowd of over 300 supporters and raised over $2,600 for the campaign.

The mission of CFC is to "promote and support philanthropy through a program that is employee focused, cost-efficient, and effective in providing all federal employees the opportunity to improve the quality of life for all."

Participants in CFC include members of the armed forces, federal civilian employees, and postal workers.

CFC began in 1964 and is the largest workplace charity campaign in the world, reaching out to federal employees across the country and raising over $7 billion in its 50 year history.
