Vietnam POW receives ring 44 years after imprisonment

The official party arrives at the Cavanaugh Flight Museum in Addison, Texas, Nov. 11 for a ceremony that would reunite a former Air Force aviator and his wife with his original wedding ring 44 years after it was confiscated by the North Vietnamese. Vietnam POW receives ring 44 years after imprisonment

A small wooden box holds a few items that didn't return with retired Air Force Col. James Hivner Feb. 12, 1973, when he was released as a Vietnam prisoner of war. The colonel was shot down Oct. 5, 1965, and was captured within 10 minutes of ejecting. His dog tag, wedding ring and a "rat fink" were confiscated. They were returned 44 years later.
