The 82nd Mission Support Group welcomed its new commander Col. Kimberley Ramos June 8 during a change of command ceremony in hangar 1045.

Brig. Gen. O.G. Mannon, 82nd Training Wing commander, said that Colonel Ramos is following a great legacy and that he trusts that she will keep the legacy alive. The general said Colonel Lipsey has made many contributions to Sheppard such as creating better security to protect against terrorist threats and having old and decrepit buildings torn down that were not being used.

Now it is up to Colonel Ramos to take the seat and keep Sheppard moving forward.

Colonel Ramos is responsible for more than 25,000 people and 87,000 students annually with a work force of over 2,500 military, civilian and contractor personnel. She will provide all civil engineer, personnel, communications, services, law enforcement, supply, transportation, contracting and logistics readiness support for the Air Force's largest technical training installation and the Euro-NATO Joint Jet Pilot Training Program. Colonel Ramos is in charge of a $120 million budget and $332 million in contracts annually.

"I am grateful for this opportunity. I feel honored to serve with you. As Aristotle said, 'We are what we repeatedly do,' and I see the habit of excellence that you all have and that will serve you well," Colonel Ramos said.

Colonel Ramos was commissioned in 1988 following graduation from Syracuse University, N.Y. Throughout her career, she has held a variety of assignments and leadership positions in the space, missile and information fields. Colonel Ramos has commanded Bravo Company, Joint Communications Support Element, MacDill AFB,  Fla.; the 65th Communications Squadron, Lajes Field, Azores, Portugal; and the 336th Training Squadron at Keesler AFB, Miss.
