For 80 years, Sheppard Air Force Base has worked to become the tip of the spear for the Air Force's Combat Capability and its ability to fly, fight, and win — delivering airpower anytime, anywhere in defense of our nation.
What began in 1941 as an aircraft maintenance and basic military training post for the Army Air Corps, Sheppard AFB has grown to become the Air Force's most diverse training installation, hosting both technical and pilot training. The 82nd Training Wing is home to Aircraft Maintenance University as it executes all aircraft maintenance training for enlisted and officer career field. It also trains Airmen in communications, civil engineering, logistics, cyber and more. The 80th Flying Training Wing is home to the Euro-NATO Joint Jet Pilot Training program, the world's only internationally-manned and operated military pilot training programs in which 14 NATO partners participate. In addition to undergraduate pilot training, the 80th FTW conducts instructor pilot training and introduction to fighter fundamentals.
