It’s a good time of the year to be dusting off your security postures to help protect your home and office network, your electronic devices, and your personal information. October is National Cybersecurity Awareness Month and the 82d Communications Squadron would like you and your families to remain cyber secure. Here are some things to check for:

1.      Ensure computers and mobile devices are locked when unattended

2.      Never open e-mail attachments from unknown senders

3.      Treat all passwords and PINs like a toothbrush – don’t share them with others

4.      Never connect any cellular phone, iPad, or iPhone device to an AFNet connected computer via USB

5.      Protect Personally Identifiable Information (PII) data by encrypting e-mails and files

6.     Report spam and scams to your unit Cybersecurity Liaisons; never forward them

7.     Be careful not to post deployment or other official information to social media sites

8.     Always secure your office area when empty and departing at the end of the day

9.     Challenge anyone in your areas that you do not recognize; find out why they are there and determine the reason is legitimate; report suspicious personnel to your unit security manager

10.  Ensure positive access control procedures are followed at all times; control the movement of visitors in your areas and facilities; provide escorts when necessary

11.   Report suspicious requests for information to your unit security manager or supervisor
