Patrick Doherty, 82nd Training Wing commander from Sheppard Air Force Base, Texas, visited Detachment 16 at Royal Air Force Lakenheath, England, Nov. 3. Detachment 16, of the 372nd Training Squadron, is one of five U.S. Air Forces in Europe detachments under the 82nd TRW command and provides upgrade and advanced skills training for 48th Maintenance Group maintainers. “The general took over last year as the wing commander of the 82nd TRW,” said the Det. 16 chief. “This is his initial tour through all of the different detachments, because we’re scattered throughout the world.” Doherty toured the detachment classrooms and spent time speaking with the instructors. At the end of the day, Doherty shared his leadership philosophy, priorities and values with the instructors during a commander’s call. “Prioritize people,” Doherty said. “If you take care of them, then that takes care of the heart of where our leadership needs to be. We need that in our Air Force right now.” After sharing his thoughts, Doherty opened the floor for questions and spent time discussing a wide array of topics with the Airmen. RAF Lakenheath was Doherty’s first stop on his tour of USAFE detachments under his command.
