The Sheppard Spouses’ Club continued its banner year of giving during its annual Scholarship Dinner and Ceremony held at the Forum in Wichita Falls May 12. The SSC awarded 36 scholarships totaling $44,850 to military dependents.

Jill Koester, an advisor to the SSC executive board, said number of scholarships awarded in 2023 was three times the number awarded in the previous year. She credited the increase to the efforts of the executive board.

“They really worked hard to get the word out,” she said.

The scholarships were funded through proceeds from the Sheppard Thrift Shop, the annual Hangar Holiday event, and a donation from Wayland Baptist University.

In addition to the scholarships, the SSC distributed $28,375 in grants to organizations on-base and in the local communities.

“We’ve given grants to Fisher House, various booster clubs, and we work with military family readiness,” Koester said. “We started the Give Back Program in January and granted $6500 to local schools.”

The SSC is an all-ranks organization that provides volunteer and social opportunities.
