POCs NEEDED

The base blood program officers are seeking unit POCs to coordinate blood drives around the installation. Civilian blood agencies perform blood drives on military installations across the US and this is a unique opportunity to make an impact in the local community and across the US, while learning more about how our civilians partners assist with the Defense Blood program.

  • Civilian blood agencies perform blood drives on military installations across the US to help bolster a safe blood supply. The blood that is collected locally is generally used locally or provided to other military treatment facilities and VA facilities to ensure they are able to provide critical care patient needs. In the past 2 years, our installation has been able to support Elmendorf AFB hospital, Brooke Army Medical Center, Keesler Medical Center and the Houston VA Medical System with blood collected at Sheppard AFB!

Squadron should identify a POC to assist with future blood drives that may occur in the unit. Each POC will be responsible for coordinating the blood drive for their squadron with guidance from the base program POCs.

Please contact the installation blood program managers below with any questions:

Quick Tips

  • When driving, don’t block crosswalks.
  • Yield to pedestrians, never pass a vehicle stopped for pedestrians.
  • Pay attention when in troop walks; slow to 10mph when passing troops.
  • If there is not a crosswalk nearby, cross in a well-lit area; wait for traffic to pass or stop.
