SAFETY CORNER – CAMPFIRE SAFETY What happens around the campfire doesn’t always stay at the campfire. Don’t get caught in a hot situation only to be a story told for years to come! Consider some tips from Smokey Bear to enjoy a safe night under the stars! Quick Tips Do NOT build a fire in hazardous, dry conditions. Keep fire pits at least 15ft from tents, shrubs, trees, or other flammables. Consider the wind & direction when choosing the location for your fire. Ensure to have a source of water, a bucket, and shovel available at all times. Don’t burn dangerous objects like aerosol cans, aluminum cans, or glass. Keep the fire to a manageable size. Remember: if it’s too hot to touch, it’s too hot to leave.
