SAFETY CORNER – SMOKE & CO DETECTORS

If you get caught in a fire, do you know what to do? Have you ever smelled carbon monoxide? When was the last time you checked the batteries in your smoke and carbon monoxide detectors? Is your furnace and fireplace ready for the season? These are all great questions to ask yourself and your family members. Read on for a few tips about them all!

Quick Tips

  • From the NFPA: 3 out of 5 home fire deaths resulted from fires in homes with no smoke alarms.
  • Don’t wait until the cold weather is here to have your furnace maintenance.
  • Inspect and clean your fireplace yearly; check for loose joins and cracks.
  • Test smoke detectors monthly; replace batteries at least once a year.
  • Carbon monoxide is a fatal gas that is invisible and odorless.
