Thrift Shop moves to new digs June 11 Published June 4, 2013 By Leigh Weidman Sheppard Officers Spouse Club SHEPPARD AIR FORCE BASE, Texas -- The base Thrift Shop will open for business on June 11 with a new address after moving into the old Class VI store next to the commissary. Moving the thrift shop out of building 1624 was part of the base civil engineering's demolition and consolidation plan. The last day of business for the old Thrift Shop is June 5. "We are thrilled with the new Thrift Shop location as it will prove to be more convenient for our shoppers," said Tricia Berube, Sheppard Officer's Spouses Club president. "It is located near the BX and Commissary, offering a one-stop shopping spot. Thanks to countless volunteers, we will be able to complete the move with no interruption to our normal operating hours." One of the major reasons the move benefits the Thrift Shop in general is the prime location. "I am certain the new location for our Thrift Shop will bring an increase in customers, consigners, donators, and volunteers which is what we constantly strive for," said Gerri Swant, Thrift Store manager. "Many people had difficulty finding us at our prior location as it was on the back side of the base. I've already received comments from many base residents and visitors sharing their excitement of the new location's accessibility." The Thrift Shop is open every Tuesday, Wednesday and the first Saturday of the month from 10 a.m. - 2:00 p.m. Any items in decent condition can be taken to the Thrift Shop. Most items are consigned, and anyone with an ID card can consign. The consigner marks their own price and receives 75 percent of the sale; 25 percent stays with the Thrift Shop. All profits collected by the Thrift Shop are split between the Sheppard Officers' Spouses' Club (SOSC) and Sheppard Enlisted Spouses' Club (SESC) for distribution in to each club's Welfare account. The Welfare accounts fund both club's annual scholarships and local and national charitable giving.
