David Carr, a pavement and construction equipment instructor for the 364th Training Squadron, Detachment 1, at Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri, part of the 782nd Training Group based here, finished in second place as the Army Training and Doctrine Command (TRADOC) instructor of the year. The award represents excellence in achieving good instructor competencies as a teacher and practitioner. "I feel it's a big accomplishment," Carr said. Carr counts hard work and dedication as his key to success. "I wanted to give my best to the students," Carr said. "You have to be a hard worker and be able to make decisions." Some of Carr's favorite moments are when the students pick up on a concept that they previously did not know. "I like it when the students pick up on something," Carr said. Carr likes training students for the operational Air Force and working on big objectives that contribute to that. "I like working on large projects," Carr said. "I am training people that are going to eventually be down-range." Carr aims to make sure his students can take the lessons they learn and apply them to any situation they may encounter. "What we do is real world," Carr said. "I make sure that I give them everything they need to be beneficial to the Air Force."
