"The Griffin" jumps into mobile apps with "Torqued" Published April 19, 2013 By Dan Hawkins 367th Training Support Squadron HILL AIR FORCE BASE, Utah -- Aircraft maintenance jumped feet-first into mobile application technology courtesy of the 367th Training Support Squadron here with the release of "Torqued" April 18. "Torqued", the first major application release by the unit's Instructional Training Unit (ITU), was designed to allow Air Force maintainers to calculate complicated torque settings on-the-fly while on the flight line. The app was revealed during a visit to the unit by Col. David Murphy, 782nd Training Group commander. The 367th TRSS is part of the 782nd TRG, which is headquartered at Sheppard Air Force Base, Texas. "It will help the maintainer on the flight line," Murphy said. "The app is something the young maintainer can connect with easily, not to mention quicker and easier to use, making it more efficient than current processes. This type of innovation is exactly what the Chief of Staff of the Air Force is looking for." Part of the beauty of the app is it can be used by any person who uses torque wrench tools, not just aircraft maintainers. With the current maintenance procedures for torque wrench settings, when an extension is required with use of a torque wrench, an intricate math problem requiring a calculator is required to determine the proper torque settings. With the "Torqued" app, maintainers will be able to use their mobile devices to determine the proper torque settings without error. This app is designed to not only help minimize wasted time on the flight line, but to ensure accuracy of torque settings on critical components. "This is just the first of many apps we will build to make the difficult work of aircraft maintenance and AMMO more effective," said Maj. Michael Bliss, 367th TRSS commander. "We have some ideas for future apps, but we really want to hear what the Airmen doing the job want." "Torqued" is available now for free download through the Android Market and iTunes apps. Anyone interested in using the application can use their mobile device to go to their associated app marketplace and search for "Torqued" from Griffin Mobile. The 367th TRSS, nicknamed "The Griffin", focuses on innovating the way Air Force maintainers get the mission done. With over 20 years' experience, the squadron produces training aides, interactive multimedia and maintenance procedures analysis in an effort to streamline and increase productivity in the maintenance community. The unit currently supports the MAF and the CAF, with a staff of highly trained performance analysis personnel. They can help identify the root cause of problems, offer solutions and develop state of the art Interactive Multimedia Training to tackle issues.
