The 82nd Civil Engineering Squadron and DS2 are beginning work on a major water efficiency project April 10th aiming to help the base and city of Wichita Falls further reduce water consumption in the midst of extreme drought conditions.

Notices will be sent out to building managers notifying them of the specific start date for their buildings.

The project will be spearheaded by DS2s Edward Jordan, base energy manager, and Paul Woods, resource efficiency manager.

With Wichita Falls and the base currently in Stage 3 drought conditions, the project aims to help conserve more water and help the base and the region with the water conservation effort by setting a good example.

An added benefit of the project is that it also prepares the base to be able to handle more water conservation in the event that the region goes to Stage 4 drought restrictions.

Many buildings on base will be affected by the project as the contractor will be installing low flow aerators on faucet, flush valves on toilets and shower heads in dormitories throughout the base.

An example of one conservation project is the installation of green handles on toilets. When you see toilets equipped with the green handle, users can pull up for liquids and push down for solids. Depending on the nature of the waste, the water flow used to flush is determined by the user.

Future plans include irrigation work as well.
