6 from Sheppard selected by OTS rated board 13OT02 Published March 6, 2013 By Dan Hawkins 82nd Training Wing Public Affairs SHEPPARD AIR FORCE BASE, Texas -- Three NCOs stationed at Sheppard, along with three other NCOs based at 82nd Training Wing detachments in Germany, Texas and New Mexico, were selected for Officer Training School by the 13OT02 Rated Selection Board in results released March 6 by the Air Force. Air Force Recruiting Service officials considered a total 417 applications with a selection rate of 59.23 percent. Of the 247 selected, 40 enlisted members were selected, including the six belonging to the 82nd Training Wing. The Sheppard selections accounted for 15 percent of the total number of enlisted selections across the service. Selectees at Sheppard are: - Tech. Sgt. Justin Kappenman, 363rd Training Squadron - Staff Sgt. Christopher Moe, 361st Training Squadron - Staff Sgt. Justin Nichols, 363rd Training Squadron Selectees at Sheppard detachments are: - Staff Sgt. Justin Davis, 372nd Training Squadron Detachment 10, Holloman Air Force Base, N.m. - Staff Sgt. Kyle Hill, 373rd Training Squadron Detachment 20, Ramstein Air Base, Germany - Staff Sgt. Mark Skinner, 372nd Training Squadron, Detachment 20, Dyess Air Force Base, Texas The three Airmen from Sheppard were recognized by Brig. Gen. Michael Fantini during the 82nd TRW wing staff meeting March 6. As part of the selection process, board members review both objective and subjective factors. Objectively, the board considers each applicant's academic discipline, grade point average and Air Force Officer Qualifying Test scores. Subjectively, board members evaluate work experience, accomplishments, adaptability, character, leadership ability, potential for future growth and other recommendations. For active-duty enlisted members, performance reports and commanders' recommendations are also evaluated. Selectees should attend Basic Officer Training at Maxwell Air Force Base, Ala., in 2013.
