Wichita Falls, Sheppard enter stage 3 drought restrictions Published Feb. 6, 2013 By Josh Wilson 82nd Training Wing Public Affairs SHEPPARD AIR FORCE BASE, Texas -- The city of Wichita Falls, including Sheppard Air Force Base, has entered Stage 3 drought restrictions, effective immediately, due to local lake levels being at or below 40 percent. The announcement came from the city of Wichita Falls in a press release dated Feb. 5. Based on the water rationing zone map distributed by the city of Wichita Falls, Sheppard is in the Monday watering zone, meaning base residents will only be allowed to water on Mondays between midnight and 5 a.m. for automated sprinkler systems and 8 p.m. to midnight for hose-end sprinklers. Base leadership has made the decision to water only the following areas: the median of D and E Avenue, all athletic fields, and the parade grounds. In addition to watering, the following are restrictions that are also effective immediately due to Stage 3 drought warning (which includes the measures from Stage 2): - All irrigation, residential and commercial, will be reduced to once a week, Monday through Friday, based on the water rationing zone map - No washing of vehicles in drive ways; only use a commercial car wash, dealership, automotive shop or detail shop - Fundraising car washes are prohibited - Driveways, patios and sidewalks cannot be washed unless an immediate health or safety risk is present Enforcement by the city of violations will begin Tuesday, February 5th at midnight. Watering is allowed on a resident or business owners designated day only. More information on implications for base residents was not available before press time.
