82 MSG, 80 FTW take home recycling awards Published Jan. 29, 2013 By Dan Hawkins 82nd Training Wing Public Affairs SHEPPARD AIR FORCE BASE, Texas -- The 82nd Mission Support Group and the 80th Flying Training Wing were named Team Sheppard's 1st quarter, 2013 Recycling Incentive Award winners during the base's quarterly Environmental, Safety and Occupational Health Council meeting Jan. 29. The award, which is broken down into separate categories for permanent party and students, is based on the total amount of recyclable material reported to the environmental flight by the unit's recycling monitors. The final numbers are calculated on a per capita basis to account for unit size differences. This quarter, the 82nd MSG recycled a total of 78,834 pounds to claim the permanent party title, a per capita rate of 135.22 pounds. The 80th FTW captured the student category, bringing in 10,374 pounds worth of recyclables, a per capita rate of 13.58 pounds. Col. Jaime Schofield, 80th FTW vice-commander, accepted the award on behalf of the student winners. Lt. Col. Peter Berube, 82nd MSG deputy commander, accepted the permanent party award. The goal of the awards is to help highlight awareness of the base recycling program and provide an incentive for groups to recycle. The $1,000 prize in each category can be used by commanders for quality of life programs or can be donated to the base recycling program.
