"SheppardsList" helps reutilize Published Jan. 7, 2013 By Kimberly Parker 82nd Training Wing Public Affairs SHEPPARD AIR FORCE BASE, Texas -- "SheppardList," a new reutilization program for items that need disposal is up and running base-wide. Rather than take unneeded office items to a Defense Reutilization and Marketing Office/Receiving In Place (DRMO/RIPL) for disposal, offices can now offer them to other agencies for re-use on a Craigslist-like website. The goal is to work together to reutilize items already on the base instead of purchasing new items. SheppardList is housed on SharePoint and can be accessed by anyone on base with a common access card. "We've worked to develop a base-wide list of POCs that can help each of squadron's through the process," said Jeffrey Zeitvogel, 82nd Logistics Readiness Squadron logistics manager. Anyone interested in adding items to the SheppardList can log on and complete all the paperwork through the SharePoint site. Most of the items added are administrative type items like printer cartridges and office furniture, but almost any unused or unneeded office items can be listed. "Most items can be swapped easily, but remember to work with your equipment custodian for any items that are on an inventory list," said Zeitvogel. SheppardList makes it easy for offices to advertise their unneeded items, which can be listed with detailed descriptions and photos. "It's a great tool to potentially fill needs across the base without spending additional funds," said Steve Phillips,82nd Logistics Readiness Squadron logistics manager. While the program is not part of any formal process at the moment, the hope is to have it become part of the DRMO/RIPL process. The concept is to post the item through SheppardList for 30 to 45 days; if no interest is shown, then the formal DRMO/RIPL process can begin. So far nearly $3,500 worth of items have been reutilized around base through SheppardList and there are still over 1,600 items listed. The reutilization of all the currently listed items could mean a potential savings of over $92,000. For a complete listing of SheppardList POCs, click here.
