With October being Energy Action Month across the Air Force, members of the Sheppard Energy Team visited base dining facilities Oct. 19 to promote ways everyone can pitch in to save energy.

The team handed out posters, flyers and energy keep-sakes during the lunch hour visit.

With this year's Energy Action Month theme being "I am Air Force Energy", the primary purpose of the visit was to voice and promote the theme to hundreds of Airman-in-Training.

According to Sheppard Energy Manager Eddie Jordan, ingraining the energy action mindset during technical training is a great place to start.

"Culture change is a key component in the overall effort to meet energy goals and raise awareness on the installation," Jordan said.  "If we can instill a mindset of taking action at every opportunity, regardless of how big or small the action is, together we can make a major difference on the bottom line of our resources and dollars."

The timing of Energy Action Month is also important.

This is the way to bring in the new fiscal year," Jordan said. "A full month dedicated to Energy Action to get the fiscal year started in a cost conscious culture type of mentality is perfect for the message we are trying to establish as a culture."

Team Sheppard, along with the base Energy Team, has truly embraced this month's theme and all the promotions regarding energy as a whole.

"I love being a part of the Energy Team," said Mike Gaffney, Sheppard Energy Construction Inspector. "Our projects are only going to be as successful as the "energy" we put into them and from what I'm seeing, we are doing a pretty good job!"

Sheppard has seen an increase in energy projects over the past few years. Moreover, the base has received over $10 million in energy focus funds since 2009.
