The deadline to file taxes is fast approaching. Taxpayers have until April 17 to file their 2011 tax returns and to pay any tax due. There is no reason to wait until the last minute. The Sheppard Tax Center is open from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday - Friday, and has extended hours on Tuesdays from 4-6 p.m. for students and instructors only.

The Tax Center will be open on March 10 from 8-11:30 a.m. for students only.

The Tax Center is located at Bldg 315 in the Sheppard Law Center, between the library and the south bowling lanes. The Tax Center is open to Active Duty military and their dependents, retirees and their dependents, civil service employees and National Guard and Reserve members.

The Tax Center is part of the IRS's Volunteer Income Tax Assistance Program, and is staffed by a group of dedicated volunteers who are certified by the IRS in tax preparation. To make things easier for our volunteers please be prepared before coming to the tax center.

The following documents are necessary to process tax returns:
  • W2 (wage and tax statement from ALL employers), Form 1099 for interest dividends, and miscellaneous income.
  • Social Security cards for all family members, including children.
  • Any child care provider's name address and tax identification number and payment receipts for those planning to claim the child and dependent care credit.
  • Information for deductions and/or credits, such as an education credit.
  • Bring the bank routing and account numbers for a direct deposit refund.
  • Bring a copy of last year's tax return if available.
