Sheppard kicks off its Combined Federal Campaign Published Sept. 2, 2011 By 2nd Lieutenant Sara Harper 82nd Training Wing Public Affairs SHEPPARD AIR FORCE BASE, Texas -- Sheppard Air Force Base kicked off its 2011 Combined Federal Campaign September 1 with a breakfast at the base club. The CFC prides itself on being the largest and most successful workplace philanthropic fundraiser raising more than $281.5 million for charities throughout the world in 2010. More than 2,000 non-profit charities from local, national and international organizations belong to and benefit from the CFC. Millions of people in need all over the world receive support from the money and donations raised throughout this month-long campaign. Last year, the base goal was $246,500, this year Sheppard's goal has been lowered by 19% to $200,000. This goal was adjusted for the loss of one training group, the results from last year's campaign and the current national economic situation. Key workers and points of contacts have been identified, trained and are ready to start work. Each group and squadron has representatives that can answer any questions that may come up. Catalogs have been distributed throughout the base and if interested, participants can donate to one or as many organizations as they prefer. There are two easy ways to give: by payroll deduction or cash contributions. Throughout these difficult economic times, the CFC strives to give to those who need it the most. This year marks the 50th anniversary for the CFC, and the theme of the campaign will be "50 years of caring". Enrique Vazquez, speaks about the importance of the campaign.
