During a deployment exercise at Sheppard AFB on June 20-21, members of the 82nd Medical Group screened hundreds of permanent party Air Force Airmen to ensure they are medically ready to deploy.

"The primary reason we did this was to improve our Preventive Health Assessment and Individual Medical Readiness (PIMR) compliance rate and increase the base's readiness status," said Lt. Col. Kirk Winger, 82nd Aerospace Medicine Squadron commander.

"We saw over 250 active duty permanent party members between June 20 and 21," said Colonel Winger.

The medical records of each Airman were checked for currency in five areas: dental, annual physical exam, immunizations, lab work, and medical equipment to include gas mask inserts, if worn. If the Airman was not current, they were scheduled for that procedure.

"(The member) has to be current on all five of these components in order to be "green" in PIMR, or be ready (to deploy)," said Colonel Winger.

The push to increase the base's PIMR numbers was a success. "By doing this we improved the base's overall PIMR compliance rate and increased our readiness posture," said Colonel Winger.

The Air Force standard is to have at least 80% of the assigned permanent party Airmen up-to-date in PIMR so they can be deployment ready.
