Team Sheppard explores educational opportunities at fair Published June 9, 2011 By Airman 1st Class Adawn Kelsey 82nd Training Wing Public Affairs SHEPPARD AIR FORCE BASE, Texas -- Sheppard's Education Office is holding an Education Fair June 9 and 10 featuring schools from across Texas and the nation. There are representatives from about 35 different schools to help anyone on base who has questions or needs information about furthering their education. Joshua Jonas, 82nd Force Support Squadron Education Fair coordinator, said the attendance has been great and expects more participation during the rest of the event. "Within the first half more than 30 people have come through the event," he said. "Over the next few hours we expect many more will come. The education fair will be at the community activities center June 9 until 6 p.m. and June 10 from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m." Mr. Jonas said this is an education opportunity that shouldn't be missed. "This is a great opportunity for anyone to advantage of having a school representative that they can talk to in person," he said. "As councilors at Sheppard we can only give Airmen the information we are provided, so having someone here who actually works at the school is a very valuable opportunity. This event gives Airmen all the tools they need to be successful in their careers and to further their education." Staff Sgt. Roxanna Coble, 366th Training Squadron aircraft armament systems instructor, said the representatives helped her find more information on how to get started on her bachelor's degree. "It's amazing so many schools have shown up from all across Texas to support this event," she said. "I have been stressed about getting a degree so this is very convenient for me to get all the information I need in one place. When you go on line you don't have all the course guides, and in order to get them you have to call or order them through the mail. Right now I can get the one-on-one time and help I need to make educated decisions and research my options." Sergeant Coble said it is important for her to get her degree so she can set the example for her children. "My husband and I are both trying to get our degrees while we are in the Air Force," she said. "We will be the first in our families to get degrees and it is important for me to set that example for my children. We would also like to get our degrees while we are in the Air Force so ourĀ GI bills can be given to our childre for college."
