Current residents of and new applicants for Sheppard dormitories and privatized housing are required by recent changes to Air Force instructions to certify that neither they, nor anyone living with them is required to register as a sex offender on national or state sex offender registries.

"This applies to dormitory and base housing residents across the Air Force," said 82nd Mission Support Group Commander Col. Kimberley Ramos. "The purpose is to ensure as far as possible that military housing for single Airmen and military families is as safe and secure as possible."

Current residents will be required to complete Air Force Form 4422, Sex Offender Disclosure and Acknowledgement, as well as certain sections of Department of Defense Form 1746. Letters are being sent directly to all current housing and dormitory residents along with the required forms, which must be completed and returned by Jan. 31, 2011.

New applicants are already required to complete these forms.

Residents who cannot certify that no one in their household is required to register as a sex offender will have to provide additional information regarding their situation. Base officials will then make a determination regarding continued occupancy in base housing or dormitories on a case-by-case basis.

Residents who have questions regarding how to complete and submit the forms should contact the housing office at (940) 676-1840. Those who may have questions of a legal nature should call the Legal Assistance Office at (940) 676-4262.
