Road work to begin at Avenue H, First Avenue Published Nov. 3, 2010 By Jay Gilmore 82nd Civil Engineer Squadron SHEPPARD AIR FORCE BASE, Texas -- The pavement at the Avenue H and First Avenue intersection will be reconstructed this fall, causing significant disruption to the normal traffic flow through the area heavily impacting the base populace, particularly Wind Creek Village residents. The contract to rebuild the intersection pavement will be activated between the mid to late November. The work will be accomplished in two phases and will take about four months to complete. During the first phase, entrance to Wind Creek Village will only be available through the west First Avenue and the exit will be through Nehls Boulevard as usual, but only permits straight and right-hand maneuvers. During the second phase, access to Wind Creek Village will be available through the same streets, but only a left-hand movement will be possible. Traffic traveling east and west on First Avenue will not be possible at any time the work is underway. The contractor will erect signs, barricades and traffic cones to cordon-off the pavement closed to traffic. Expect work in Phase I to begin mid to late November. Please be patient while the road work is underway. Please follow the signs, respect the barricades and above all exercise caution when near the work area. For questions call Jay Gilmore, 676-5704.
