Main track closes for renovations, alternate track opens Published Oct. 15, 2010 By Airman 1st Class Adawn Kelsey 82nd Training Wing Public Affairs SHEPPARD AIR FORCE BASE, Texas -- The main track will close Oct. 15-Nov. 15 for renovations, and the alternate track, located north of the air traffic control tower, will be open for use. The additions will cost about $313,167 and will include a second stretch pad and eight turnarounds that will be added along the middle of the track. Brian Eskew, 82nd Force Support Squadron base sports manager, said the additions will allow more people to use the track at the same time. "The second stretch pad and the turnarounds will also provide people with more options to work out at the track," Mr. Eskew said. "The turnarounds will break the track in to 1/8-, 1/4-, 1/2-mile laps. There are different rules that need to be followed at the alternate track. "Head phones are not allowed at the new track and all trash, such as water bottles, need to be thrown in the trashcan seeing as we are closer to the flight line," Mr. Eskew said. Darrell Carr, 82nd FSS lead fitness testing technician, said the track is open for public use dawn to dusk seven days a week, and is reserved for Fitness Assessment Testing from dawn to 10 a.m. Monday-Thursday.
