A big shift is coming in the way Sheppard does business, at least when it comes to the number of programs and databases used to accomplish daily tasks.

David Hubbard, the chief of quality assurance at the 82nd Logistics Readiness Squadron, said Sheppard is slowly introducing the concept of the Expeditionary Combat Support System, an all-in-one database that will take about 250 legacy programs and combine them all into one system.

"All we're trying to do (right now) is make people aware that there is this massive change coming down the pike from the Air Force," said Mr. Hubbard, also the base's POC for the transformation.

The roughly 250 programs are used in various agencies across base, such as the tool accountability system used by maintainers, the base supply system and vehicle management program.

"This will not be an overnight happening," Mr. Hubbard said. "It will take a couple of years to do."

Garry Richey and Liz Day from Air Education and Training Command briefed 82nd Training Wing and 80th Flying Training Wing leadership on the topic Sept. 21. The purpose was to educate key leaders on the goal of ECSS, the program's implementation timeline and how the new program will affect the Air Force.
