All individuals holding military installation identification cards will be required to register with the Defense Bio-metric Identification System, a Department of Defense incentive program to enhance base security, before Sept. 13.

Security forces members have been taking military, retiree, military dependent and civilian installation identification cards and scanning them before granting access to the base.

Tech. Sgt. Jason Bergeron, 82nd Security Forces Squadron Non Commissioned Officer in Charge of Pass and Registration, said those who are not already registered in DBIDS need to do so as soon as possible.

"There are two ways to register for DBIDS," Sergeant Bergeron said. "The Missile Road Visitors Center will be open seven days a week from 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and the customer service center located in building 402 will be open from 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday."

The Sergeant said retirees, civilian employees, active and reserve military will be required to register.

"There will be an exception for military members who are on temporary duty status for 29 days or less," the sergeant said. "However, when arriving at one of the gates, the member must be able to provide proof of TDY status, as well as his or her ID. This will be required each time the individual requests access."

All military dependents over the age of 16 will also be required to register for DBIDS before Sept. 13.

For members with identification cards that do not have a bar code, they need to make an appointment with the military personnel flight to receive a new one.

Sergeant Bergeron said the process is relatively quick and requires only the individual and his or her identification card.

"When registering for DBIDS, a photograph and a finger print, if needed, will be taken and then you will be added to the system," the sergeant said.

Airmen who arrive to Sheppard for training will register within the first two days as part of their in-processing procedures.
