CE brings cooler days to Sheppard

After a few days of above-average temperatures in recent weeks, the civil engineering crews have turned on the much-anticipated air conditioning.

While Sheppard personnel are comfortable now, a few cooler days will make for a chilly work atmosphere. According to the National Weather Service, low temperatures are expected to range between 39 to 55 degrees for the next couple days.

The quick reaction by some would be to have the facility manager contact CE to have the heat turned on. But in order to keep our standard of being good stewards of taxpayer money, the local Energy Conservation instruction is specific on when to transition from heating to cooling and vice versa.

According to SAFBI 23-301, Energy Conservation, once the base has transitioned from heating to cooling for the spring and summer, heat will not be turned back on unless the base weather station forecasts daily low temperatures of 45 degrees or lower or five consecutive days.

However, when possible and when Mother Nature cooperates, CE attempts to have a few "no cool, no heat" days to help conserve more energy and decrease the energy cost to taxpayers.
