Mark Hertling, commander of Training and Doctrine Command, visited Sheppard Air Force Base to learn about some of the joint training operations Sheppard conducts with the Army battalions March 4. General Hertling toured sections of the 169th Engineering Battalion including the Installation of Fixtures, Plumbing Systems and Maintenance course and the Electrical Systems Apprentice course. During his tour, General Hertling witnessed students repairing various types of plumbing systems and using new climbing safety technology out at the pole yards. While his visit was short, he still had an impact on some of the soldiers. "As a three star general, he oversees all schools for the Army," said Sgt. 1st Class Joshua Robinette, 366th Training Squadron Water and Fuels Apprentice course senior training manager. "He's done things like revamp several Army Basic Trainings, so for him to come out here for his soldiers says a lot."
