Sheppard Youth Center Basketball Kicks off

The Sheppard Youth center kicked off its 2010 basketball season Jan. 16 with opening ceremonies and introduction of teams. The guest speaker for the event was Chief Master Sgt. Steve Parker, 82nd Force Support Squadron superintendent.

The Games started with the 5- 8 year olds in the non-competitive league. Teams in this league are learning basic basketball skills and fundamentals.

Teams in the league include the Thunder, coached by Pat Fulham; The Texans, coached by Chris Carter; and the Cavaliers, coached by Darrin Seward. All coaches are volunteers.

The 9-12 year olds also started that day with a game between the Pacers and the Heat. The Pacers came out ahead, winning 36-16.

The Pacers then defeated the Lakers in a squeaker, by 27-25 and improved to 2-0. The Heat then played the Lakers and defeated them 23-14.

Standings:
· Pacers: 2-0
· Heat: 1-1
· Lakers: 0-2

· Heat: Jacob Hoskins, 12 points and Marcus Kleckner, 14 points
· Lakers: Alyx Yanez, 9 points and Jay Lovell, 14 points
· Pacers: George Roth, 8 points and Wesley Wilson, 20 points
