Air Force Academy Band comes to Wichita Falls Published Nov. 16, 2009 By Airman 1st Class Valerie Hosea 82nd Training Wing Public Affairs SHEPPARD AIR FORCE BASE, Texas -- The Air Force Academy Band "Wild Blue Country" comes to Wichita Falls, Texas, Nov. 17 to share an "outstanding performance" with Team Sheppard and the local community at the Memorial Auditorium at 7p.m. "Great music," and "a performance with a patriotic flare," are some of the many compliments the band has received after past performances, said Tech. Sgt. Timothy Stombaugh, the WBC tour manager and band member. He said the band, which also doubles as a marching band, does more than 120 performances every year, and it never gets old. "I love music. This is a way for me to do something I love and serve my country at the same time. It's filling a unique void for me because I can serve with my talent," he said. Sergeant Stombaugh said he loves being a part of the Air Force Academy Band because of its contribution to the Air Force mission. "When we deploy we participate in troop morale tours, taking a piece of home overseas in our performances, which spreads good will to the troops and local community," he said. "These performances also help those cultures put a friendly face behind the U.S. military's uniforms." With Lt. Col. Larry Lang as the band's unit commander and conductor, audience members can look forward to more than an hour of performing from the WBC with a high emotional impact all the while paying tribute to the veterans and active duty military, Sergeant Stombaugh said.
