The Unit Compliance Inspection is approaching fast and time is running out to square away Sheppard's plans and programs.

On the anniversary of every plan and program, it must go through the War and Contingency Review Process starting with the office of primary responsibility. This process ensures all plans and programs are up-to-date and all processes are still the same.

Ensuring these documents are up-to-date keeps Sheppard mission ready.

"These documents must be up to speed before the UCI," said Jerry Thurman, 82nd Training Wing Plans and Programs.

Air Education and Training Command Instruction 10-4021 1.1.6.1 states: all AETC headquarters directorates and chiefs of special staff who require wings to prepare base-level or supporting plans will review their requirements and provide updates to AETC AOS/AOOW by March 15 and Sept. 15 each year to ensure currency of the listing.

"What people don't often realize is this program can be inspected. Emphasis needs to be placed on it to ensure plan reviews are up-to-date and self inspections are on time," said Susie Jarrett, 82nd TRW/XPO Officer.

Mary Smith, 82nd TRW/XPO analyst, said the review process starts with the office of primary responsibility, which does a full review of the plan or program, and then checks it against Air Force Instruction before passing it on to the subject matter experts to verify all job specific information is still correct making updates where necessary.

The document will then go through a final administrative review by the plans and programs office to make sure all formats are correct. This process takes anywhere from 36-45 days to complete. With the UCI approaching there is little time remaining to ensure all the plans and programs compliant, she said.

Mr. Jarrett said reviewing plans has a two-fold purpose: ensure plans are in compliance and that people know their roles.

"With people PCS'ing, transferring to different offices or retiring, it is important everyone is up to speed on their unit specific tasks and is aware of the processes of review," said Ms. Jarrett. "We hope we never have to use them, but we have to be prepared."

Information about the War and Contingency Review Process can be found in AETCI 10-4021 and AETCI 10-402 Sheppard Air Force Base Supplement.
