DynCorp wins maintenance contract Published Sept. 28, 2009 By John Ingle 82nd Training Wing Public Affairs SHEPPARD AIR FORCE BASE, Texas -- The contracting office at Air Education and Training command awarded a new contract Sept. 18 for aircraft maintenance at the 80th Flying Training Wing. The company providing contract maintenance for the 80th Flying Training Wing will change effective Nov. 1, but the mission will continue as it has for the last 28 years, the wing's commander said Sept. 25. "The requirements that were established in the bid process are certainly there to ensure the flying training wing continues uninterrupted," Col. Kevin Schneider said, "and we continue to train the best pilots for the NATO Alliance." DynCorp International was awarded the contract after the 82nd Contracting Squadron at Sheppard opened the service for bids. The Air Force selected the company for a seven-year, $31.2 million contract to provided aircraft maintenance to the world's only multinationally-manned pilot training program. In a Sept. 25 article by United Press International, William Ballhaus, president and chief executive for DynCorp International, said the company has worked with the Air Force for more than 50 years. "(This is) a partnership that demonstrates our enduring commitment to the training, safety and readiness of our nation's aviators," he said. According to the contract, a 30-day transition period will take place beginning Oct. 1 to make the move from Lear Siegler, Inc., to DynCorp. The new contractor will be in place by Nov. 1. The contract allows for a basic period of 11 months - Nov. 1 to Sept. 30 of Fiscal Year 2010 - followed by six option years.
