Gamers on Sheppard can now rejoice as the Army and Air Force Exchange Services brings GameStop to the Base Exchange July 10.

The largest video game retail store in the world will set up shop at Sheppard's Mini Mall as part of a 20-store project with AAFES during the 2009 fiscal year. Currently, AAFES operates 30 GameStop locations at different locations across the United States with more stores being planned.

Most store openings will be concentrated in the continental United States; however, there are locations in Hawaii, Guam and Puerto Rico.

Since the first AAFES-run GameStop opened in November 2007, sales have exceeded $31 million and are expected to reach as high as $100 million in fiscal year 2009.

"We want to get the Airmen in Training to stay on base more, so by providing the GameStop, we hope to bring something they want here and accomplish our goal at the same time," said Nancy Copada, sales and merchandise manager for AAFES at Sheppard.

The store will accept Military Star Cards as well as AAFES gift cards.

"I think it will be a fabulous business and bring a lot of revenue back to the base," said Ms. Copada.

Hours of operation will be: Sunday-Thursday, 10:30a.m.-9:00p.m. and Friday-Saturday, 10:30a.m.-9:30p.m.
