New civilian unit program coordinator positions become available

SHEPPARD AIR FORCE BASE, Texas --  Squadron commanders will get much needed help Oct. 1 when 18 new civilian unit program coordinators positions become available. 

The reasoning behind this transformation is the tremendous cut backs in the offices that were too deeply populated. Based on the 2010 fiscal year budget, 1,200 civilian positions were approved to assist squadron commanders. 

The hired assistant will serve as the primary source of information for the commander. Assistants will also be responsible for the preparation and maintenance of administrative reports and other correspondence. They will also accomplish all necessary internal operations to include administrative training, security, development of organizational operating instructions and regulations and personnel assistance.
 
Unit program coordinators will also be tasked to advise the commander on policy and maintain office procedures and records, files of various types and ensure the office operation is effective and efficient. 

Providing advice and guidance to staff in the organization on administrative, clerical and procedural requirements is part of the clerical and administrative work duties.
The administrator will also determine the necessary steps to perform the full range of administrative functions associated with personnel assignments, promotions and performance evaluations. 

In order to fill an administrative spot, squadrons must have 50 or more active duty permanent party assigned to their squadron. 

The unit program coordinator vacancies will only be available to current civil service employees at first. The vacancies will then be made available to status candidates such as veterans or military spouses, and will finally be open to all U.S. citizens interested once the first two options are exhausted.
