The 82nd Training Wing Inspector General Office has a new face March 30 when Lt. Col. Teri Russell became the new leader to handle complaints.

She said she is trying to "get a feel" of what the job entails until she attends the Installation IG Training Course in Washington. The five-day course will train her on her resources and how to handle complaints. The course will also focus on how to handle Fraud, Waste and Abuse issues.

Colonel Russell said that during her time as the IG, she is hoping to improve morale and make it easier for Airmen to carry out the mission by handling their complaints. She also said she wants to resolve most complaints within the complainant's chain of command, if possible.

According to Air Force Instruction 90-301 the IG system is based on the concept that IGs serve their commander by acting as his eyes and ears. The IG must be aware of issues and trends that affect productivity and morale of personnel.

The AFI states "a successful complaint resolution program will enhance the wing's discipline, readiness, and war fighting capability."

The new IG Lt. Col. Teri Russell came to Sheppard in October 2005 to work as a supervisor for diet therapy training programs. She spent her career working as a dietician until January 2008, when she became the Ancillary Support Training Flight commander.

The colonel said she is looking forward to having another job outside the medical field.

"This is a wonderful opportunity, I'm gaining experience in other areas." Colonel Russell said. "I want to be a great IG officer."

The former acting IG, Col. Marcia Rossi, will continue working in her position as the 82nd TRW Director of Staff and with the A-76.
