Air Education and Training Command Vice Commander Maj. Gen. Anthony F. Przybyslawski announced Dec. 8 that the 82nd Training Wing received the 2008 Air Force Outstanding Unit Award.

According to the Air Force Personnel Center website, the Air Force Outstanding Unit Award is awarded by the Secretary of the Air Force to numbered units that have distinguished themselves by exceptionally meritorious service or outstanding achievement that clearly sets the unit above and apart from similar units. The services include: performance of exceptionally meritorious service, accomplishment of a specific outstanding achievement of national or international significance, combat operations against an armed enemy of the United States, or military operations involving conflict with or exposure to hostile actions by an opposing foreign force.

All 82nd Training Wing personnel who were stationed at Sheppard between July 1, 2006, and June 30, 2008, are eligible to wear the ribbon.

Personnel working in the Sheppard Awards and Decorations office said there will be a mass update and everyone's records should reflect the award by Dec. 19.
