Tony Pounds accepted command of the 782nd Training Group from Brig. Gen. O.G. Mannon, 82nd Training Wing commander, at a change-of-command ceremony July 22 in Hangar 1010. Colonel Pounds replaced Col. Andrew Cain. Colonel Cain will next serve as 2nd Air Force director of operations. "This is truly an extraordinary opportunity for an ordinary individual," Colonel Pounds said. "As I looked at the program and saw the accomplishments of the 782nd, I felt I am privileged to be part of this team and I will do my best." Colonel Cain said one of his favorite quotes, which applies to him and the accomplishments of the 782nd TRG, is "there is no great man, just great situations that ordinary men choose or are forced to lead." "Colonel Pounds, we are excited about the expertise you bring the team here at the 782nd," General Mannon said. "Get ready to run with your brilliant staff and absolutely phenomenal troops in training." After graduating from the University of Iowa with a Bachelor of Science degree in civil engineering, Colonel Pounds joined the service through the Air Force Reserve Officer Training Corps. Colonel Pound's previous assignment was commander of the Joint Personal Property Shipping Office in San Antonio, Texas. He was responsible for providing household goods to services to Department of Defense military, civilian and U.S. Coast Guard employees in nine states. He also has experience commanding at squadron and headquarters levels.
