As construction continues on the $450,000 project to relocate the base's new visitor's center, changes will go into effect March 15 that will change the inbound route for motorists entering through the Missile Road gate.

The contractor will close both inbound lanes March 15 between Avenues A and B in order to trench and install conduits across those lanes. Inbound traffic will detour along Avenue A to Ninth Street on Saturday.

Starting Saturday night, the single inbound lane will be re-opened between Avenues A and B.

Once the construction is completed in July, Missile Road will revert back to two inbound and two outbound lanes, with new entry gate checkpoints located near Bldg. 1405, which will become the new visitor's center. Avenue A will remain open to through traffic until the new visitor center opens in July. At that time, Avenue A will be permanently close between Bldg.'s 1404 and 1405.

This project is part of a multi-million dollar base-wide project to improve Sheppard's gates.
