Bon Appetit! Sheppard to compete for coveted Hennessey Award Published Oct. 16, 2007 By 82nd Services Division SHEPPARD AIR FORCE BASE, Texas -- Sheppard's Food Services Operation has been selected to compete again in the Multiple Unit Facilities category for the 2008 Air Education and Training Command Food Service Excellence Award. "Sheppard's exceptional food services operation is one of two bases chosen to compete for the Excellence Award," said Gabriele Perry, food service officer. Two AETC evaluation team members will be at Sheppard Oct. 21-24 to examine food service facilities by concentrating on kitchen, serving, dining and management operation, training and personnel readiness as well as sanitation and maintenance. Ms. Perry said if Sheppard's operation wins, it will represent AETC and compete Air Force-wide for the prestigious Hennessey Award. "Sheppard's food service operation surely meets the requirement by providing outstanding service to 5,600 students, TDY and permanent party personnel," Ms. Perry said. The military's oldest food services award was established in 1957 and honors hotel and restaurant executive John L. Hennessey, who worked to improve military food service. The Hennessey Award is allocated once a year to food service operations that display excellence in every phase, from planning to presentation of meals.
