The Banshees started out slow, losing the first game 16-0. Luckily for them though they turned it around and won the second game 10-1 after seven innings. The double elimination tournament required the Banshees to win just one game for the championship. The 382nd TRS/882nd TRSS had to win twice to take the trophy home. "The second game we relaxed," said Banshees Coach Matt Brown. "We play our best when we're relaxed and joking with each other." Taking the undefeated Banshees by surprise, the 382nd TRS/882nd TRSS rocketed up the score board in the bottom of the first. They continually hit the ball past the Banshees defense, scoring 10 runs before they could be stopped. Both teams defense seemed rock solid after the first inning as both teams refused to let the other score. The one exception before the fourth was a homerun by 382nd TRS/882nd TRSS player Vincent Brass, taking it to 11-0. The 382nd TRS/882nd TRSS once again ramped up their scoring in the bottom of the fourth, putting five runs on the board. A home run by Shawn Nunnaly took the score to 16-0, causing the game to end due to the mercy rule. After a short break, the teams once again took the field for the deciding game of the season. The defense came out strong, preventing scoring runs from either side until the bottom of the third. Banshee Casey Hughes started off the scoring for the second game, making it home on a grounder by Jeremy Downs. His teammates quickly followed his lead, wracking up seven more runs before the inning was over. The 382nd TRS/882nd TRSS didn't just fall over and quit though, making the Banshees earn every base they took. Isaac Bell managed to slip past their defense though, scoring another run for the Banshees in the bottom of the fifth. The 382nd TRS/882nd TRSS grabbed their only run during the second game, in the top of the sixth. Banshee Jeremy Downs made it home on a hit by Joseph Rogers for the Banshees last run of the game. The 382nd TRS/882nd TRSS went three-up, three-down in the top of the seventh, making the Banshees the 2007 intramural softball champions. This is the second championship win in three years for the Banshees and the third time they've made it to the finals in as many years.
