Sheppard set to 'pull' as reservists are 'pushed' from Lackland Published June 22, 2007 By Airman 1st Class Jacob Corbin 82nd Trianing Wing Public Affairs SHEPPARD AIR FORCE BASE, Texas -- Sheppard will become host to around 20 individual ready reservists June 22 as it begins its part of the 2007 Push-Pull exercise. The IRR will be at Sheppard from June 22-29. According to the Sheppard Air Force Base Push-Pull 2007 plan, the exercise is designed "to evaluate the Air Force's capability to rapidly mobilize, process and assess large number of pre-trained individual manpower to meet projected critical Air Force wartime/contingency shortfalls." "(The exercise is) a concerted effort that encompasses almost every organization on base in one way or another," said Mary Smith, Sheppard Push-Pull point-of-contact. Pre-trained individual manpower members are reserve members who have served in the U.S. military already and are fully trained, but are not attached to a reserve unit. Their military commitment is to always be ready to answer their nation's call if they're needed. The reservists began their participation in the exercise June 18 during the "push" portion of the exercise at Lackland AFB, Texas, where they were placed on active duty and sent for in-processing and medical evaluations. Once at Sheppard, their skill levels will first be assessed. From there, they will spend time assigned to a Sheppard unit doing duties within their career field. While at Sheppard, each reservist will be assigned a Wingman from their temporary unit to welcome them to Sheppard and help them with any issues that may arise.
