Chiefs dominate Eagles, 13-9 Published May 22, 2007 By Airman 1st Class Jacob Corbin 82nd Training Wing Public Affairs SHEPPARD AIR FORCE BASE, Texas -- The Eagles fought hard to achieve a come-from-behind win May 18 against the Chiefs, but unfortunately for them, it wasn't in the cards. The Chiefs took lead in the top of the first and never looked back as they cruised to a 13-9 win over the Eagles. The annual game officially opened the 2007 intramural softball season. Ron Walko, Dave Sullivan, Norm Sheffield and Danny Smith grabbed the first runs of the game, giving the Chiefs an early lead of 4-0. The Eagles started off strong with their first at-bat with an in-field home run by Curt Van De Walle. That left his team mates anything but speechless. The Eagles rounded out the first with James Roan making it home on a hit by Sam Lofton III. The run by Roan would be the last run scored by either team until the top of the third inning when Chief's batter Walko knocked in Bryan Albrecht and Troy Engholm, pushing the lead to 6-2. The Eagles fought hard, but couldn't seem to slip past the Chiefs' defense, while the Chiefs' offense continued to rack up runs. With the score at 11-2 in the bottom of the fourth, the Eagles once again tried to rally, earning five runs with Richard Munsell, Nancy Dezell, James King, Andy Zeigler, Bruce Gooch and Van De Walle making it home. The Chiefs dominated the next two innings on offense and defense, with the score at 13-8 in the top of the sixth. A last-inning attempt by the Eagles was shut down by the Chiefs, with only Gooch making it home, leaving the final score at 13-9.
