In the spirit of Armed Forces Day, Airmen, Soldiers and Sailors faced the elements and each other May 19 during the annual Joint Warrior Competition.

The competition pitted Airmen-in-Training from squadrons all across Sheppard, along with two teams of Seabees and one of Soldiers, against each other in four events. All 18 teams competed in the litter carry, wall climb and rucksack relay, and the top eight went against one another in the tug-of-war.

The Navy Seabee's A team dominated the events by winning three of the four events and took home the trophy. The Seabees A team took first place in the wall climb, with a time of 26.56 seconds, the tug of war - defeating their counterparts the Seabee's B team in the finals - and the rucksack relay, with an astounding time of 10:56.

"For such a small group to come out here and do so well makes me very proud," said Navy Lt. Stephen Legg, 366th Training Squadron Navy officer-in-charge. "They trained hard."

While the competition was fierce, it was strictly friendly competition amongst the services.

"We're all one team," said event coordinator Maj. Allen Gwartney, 365th TRS director of operations. "We're all part of the armed forces that defend our country."

Major Gwartney said the enthusiasm, teamwork and preparation of all the teams was extremely evident, and everyone had a great time.

"They're showing what they've been learning," he said.

At the end of all the events, the Navy Seabees were tied with the 363rd TRS in overall points. The officials decided the victory should go to the Seabees, due to their near-domination of first place wins, and the fact that the tie-breaker would have been another tug-of-war, which the Navy had already proven they were the best at.

The 363rd TRS finished second to the Navy Seabee's A team with a time of 11:37. The 364th TRS A team took third with an 11:59 mark.

The Army team took a close second in the wall climb with a time of 26.66 seconds and the 362nd TRS B team took third with a time of 30.60 seconds.

In the litter carry the 362nd TRS B team took first with a time of 2 minutes, the 363rd TRS took second with a time of 2:14. The 383rd TRS took third with a time of 2:30.

In the tug-of-war, the Navy dominated, with the Seabee's A and B teams facing off against each other in the finals.
